It’s time for another update on my March health goals to lower my cholesterol as well as lose a bit of weight. To recap my health goals for this year:
- Walk 3 to 6 miles a day – I have a goal to achieve 2023 miles this year
- Hike every other week – I live by the Blue Ridge Parkway with plenty of trails to choose from!
- Annual Physical – since I just had one this will be in December.
- Mammogram – done and dusted
- Change diet – still working on food choices

What’s happening
It’s been very easy to not go to the park and walk making excuses of I have too much going on and not enough time. I’ve managed to add 73.43 miles in March nonetheless but still below the ideal mileage to hit that 2023 miles goal this year.
Food is still challenging and not because I go out and buy the not-so-great foods and yet they end up in my house and the willpower just ain’t there.
I am still tracking my food intake and still staying within range of my calorie goal but I also know I only do that well for a short while and I’ve reached the point of not really caring to keep up with it.
I had my mammogram done and was scheduled for a more in-depth one with an ultrasound, which lead to a biopsy appointment. But when I was there for said appointment, they couldn’t relocate the spot they were going to biopsy and so that didn’t happen and I am rescheduled to a mammogram on that one said in September.
Changes I am going to make
This is the same as last month with some tweaks I am about to do. While I am not a fan of giving up foods, there are some that need to be reduced for a little while and reserved for occasional meals.
I will be replacing potatoes and rice with cauliflower and pasta with zucchini. This has worked really well for me in the past and I am reducing my meat intake because of my cholesterol which means more plant food, and I don’t hate that. I don’t “need” meat in my diet and can go without so the transition will be fine.
There are trails to walk that are 15-30 minutes away from my house which isn’t bad – the alternative is that I can always step outside and walk on my road for 30-45 minutes the trails are just more fun.
Thanks for reading my March health goals update – see you in a month!
