It’s time for another update on my April health goals to lower my cholesterol as well as lose a bit of weight. To recap my health goals for this year:
- Walk 3 to 6 miles a day – I have a goal to achieve 2023 miles this year
- Hike every other week – I did a 14-mile hike – maybe squeeze in one more not quite as long.
- Annual Physical – since I just had one this will be in December.
Mammogram – done and dusted- Change diet – still working on food choices

What’s happening
It’s been a busy month but I did manage to add about 100 miles in the last 30 days. I tackled my first big hike on Three Ridges Trail and planning to do 1 to 3 long hikes a month.
With my diet changes that I talked about, I am down by 5 lbs so far going from 142 to 137 – now due to travel and a lot of places not having the best options and being my not-so-favorite time of the month, the scale is reading 138-ish but there aren’t any other travel plans ahead until July so I can stay focused on my nutrition a little bit better.
Changes I am going to make
I am going to continue to tweak my meals and food intake while maintaining my walking regimen and add some strength training with my kettlebells.
I found a really fun recipe that only uses eggs and cream cheese to make a “waffle” and then adds some keto-friendly sugar. I am not following the keto diet – I have high cholesterol so that diet doesn’t make sense to me for me – but a low-carb one with some extra fiber as I am on iron pills to help with the anemia.
Keeping it slow and steady is winning this for me. Thanks for reading my April health goals update – see you in a month!
